Where They Started
Making Waves Education Foundation is a Bay Area nonprofit committed to closing opportunity gaps through academic coaching, financial literacy, and career support from middle school through college. Its charter school, Making Waves Academy, prepares students for success in higher education and beyond.
With programs spanning both the Foundation and the Academy, the organization needed design support that could extend across reports, fundraising campaigns, campus environments, and digital communications.
Their mission was strong and their results meaningful, but the scale of their work required a consistent visual presence that could connect every touchpoint.
What Was Getting in the Way
The organization already had a clear mission and compelling stories, but those elements were appearing across materials that were developed at different times and for different audiences.
They needed design that could:
- Engage both donors and students in distinct but connected ways
- Maintain visual alignment across reports, campus signage, and campaigns
- Elevate impact data without losing the human story
- Extend seamlessly across print and digital platforms
We needed to create a unified expience across an expanding ecosystem.
What We Built
Through an ongoing partnership, Acton Circle helped translate Making Waves’ mission into a cohesive visual language that carried across environments and audiences.
We developed campaign materials and reports rooted in visual storytelling, reinforced donor trust through clear impact communications, and extended the brand into physical campus spaces to foster pride and belonging.
Deliverables included:
- Annual and impact reports that keep donors up to speed
- Banners and a large-scale mural design to inspire students across the Making Waves Academy campus
- Mobile-friendly visuals for students, faculty, and families
- Mission-aligned designs extending across print and digital platforms
- Campaign and fundraising assets that reinforce their mission
