National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO)
By creating accessible design, NACCHO transformed complex research into a practical toolkit—mobilizing hospitals and health departments to save lives.
Project Summary
The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) supports local health departments nationwide in advancing public health. With overdose rates rising across the country, NACCHO set out to publish a comprehensive 63-page toolkit to help hospitals and health departments identify and support those most at risk.
The information was there—carefully researched, evidence-based, and urgently needed. But NACCHO knew that unless the toolkit was designed for clarity and ease of use, it risked becoming overwhelming instead of empowering. That’s where Acton Circle came in: to transform complex, life-saving information into a polished, accessible resource that health leaders could put into action immediately.
Before
NACCHO had a complete draft packed with valuable research and recommendations, but they knew the toolkit could fall flat without strong design. They needed a partner to:
- Present content in a way that felt approachable, not overwhelming
- Deliver the message with clarity while avoiding stigma
- Create a resource that health leaders could quickly reference and apply in real settings
In short, the content was strong, but the design needed to make it usable.
After
Together, we turned NACCHO’s content into a clear, professional, and approachable 63-page publication tailored to health departments and hospitals nationwide.
Deliverables included:
- A polished layout aligned with NACCHO’s brand style
- Tables, diagrams, and icons redesigned for clarity and accessibility
- Imagery that emphasized community, support, and trust
- A structure that encouraged smooth reading and easy reference
Through design, NACCHO’s mission was translated into a tangible, practical resource that local health leaders can quickly absorb and apply in their communities.
